iBook beeps and flashes when turned on

History

My iBook has just become the latest computer to die on me, and now i'm reduced to writing this from a phone's browser.

(iFixit works well on a phone)

I was typing in pages '06 when the screen froze and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working. i held the power button to turn it off and now when i try to turn it on i always get 3 beeps and after that the sleep light flashes 4 times every few seconds. it doesn't give me the chance to try fsck -fy or hold c with a hardware test disc. do i need to reimage?

Referring to Apple's Knowledge Base (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547), 3 audio beeps followed by a repeating pattern of 4 flashes indicates "no good banks" of RAM detected.

If you have added RAM in the expansion slot under the airport card, try removing it and booting without it installed. See this ifixit article: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/iBook... for location.

If you get the same error without additional RAM, then the RAM soldered to the logic board has failed, and a logic board repair/replacement will be required.

Just try to ask Apple to reinstall the RAM or you could reinstall the RAM

I'll install the RAM
