Is Optical Drive ncessary to run MacBook 1.83Ghz?

History

The optical drive on my macbook 1.83 is making grinding noises. Can I remove it and not replace it and still have my mac book work?

It will work just find with out the drive in. You can also get a optical bay hard drive adapter and install a second drive with it: 9.5 mm PATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure
