Can I take out recently replaced HD and use as data drive?

Two months ago replaced failed HD with a SATA 250 GB HD. Now it appears that the logicboard has failed. Can I take out the HD and use it as a data drive connected by USB to a used macbook that I hope to purchase? I can't afford to fix the LB and I have to have my data asap. Also any suggested spots to determine value and sell the used macbook pro? Thanks!

Here's a firewire external enclosure, with firewire instead of USB you can boot from it: [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-055]

Is it as straightforward as it seems? - put old HD into the enclosure, plug into different mac, easy access to photos & files? Thank you Mayer.

Thank you both! -Would it also work to plug it into a ...non mac laptop? I am trying to avoid having to do data recovery to get my data out of the HD. I promise you,i'm not playing dumb, I really don't know. Thanks again and again! ~dawn

You can hook up your Mac HD to a non-Mac laptop (either via Firewire or USB) but you'll need to make sure your non-Mac machine understands the mac filesystem, HFS.

If the non-Mac is a Windows box, you can try this software: http://www.mediafour.com/macdrive
