Good Start up chime but will not boot

History

Get a good chime, drive spins, optical spins ( instal disk now stuck) but machine does not boot. Can not reset pram, get only one chime, holding eject or track pad button or start will not eject disk. Have to hold power button to shut down. I removed the track pad temp sensor thinking it might be in emergency sleep but no change to start up behavior. Battery charges fine.

In your current condition there is no way to tell what's wrong. If I had it I would hook up an external optical drive and try to boot from a system disk, or a firewire drive with a system installed. Only then can you start to diagnose it.

There is a system disk in the optical drive as that was one attempt to get the thing to boot. The laptop will not go into target mode, open firmware or any other key stroke startup modes.

Disconnect the optical drive

see if it will boot farther (you have to have a good boot disk either internal or external) - might just be a bad optical drive.
