does the nano work completely normal - only the backlight fails?
normally there are not that much options. i would first try to reset/restore it - if the backlight still absent. you would have to open the iPod and check it for fluid damages - if there wasn't any fluid residue that could led to a failed backlight - it's most likely that the backlight of the lcd is defective.
