How do I unlock iPhone 3GS?

History

I just got a new iPhone 3GS and I want to unlock it so that I could use other Sims on it. Please help.

it's a 3gs - thats a little bit problematic

Depends what firmware you have. If you have iOS 4 already installed, then you're out of luck, sorry. You'll have to wait a while for it to be released. But if you have 3.1.3, then use spirit to jailbreak and ultrasn0w to unlock.

you can jailbreak iOS 4 you're not out of luck.

jailbreaking and unlocking are 2 different things

redsnow has a tethered jailbreak on for 4.2......however it it loads a 6.15 baseband, if you do this, it gives you intructions on how to unlock with ultrasnow

Does anyone know how well Purple and Black ra1n work in regards to jailbreaking and unlocking the iDevices, specifically the 3g and 3gs?

Both programs are 2 years old, obsolete, and not useful for unlocking. The 3G can be jailbroken with the newest version of redsn0w, and the 3GS can be jailbroken (untethered) on 4.3.3 or lower firmware with JailbreakMe
