How do I retrieve data from my MacBook where the lcd screen is broken?

You can hook it up to another Mac via a Firewire cable and start your machine holding down the "T" key. The hard drive icon from your machine should show up on the other machine. This is called Target mode.

Connect to an external monitor. I have not done this in a long time, but I assume by default you see a mirror of your normal desktop.
