What is causing the creaking from the rear of my car?
I have a creaking sound coming from the left-rear of my Focus. I can hear it from inside at all speeds whenever I go over any kind of bump, or even just driving through a parking garage. The noise is extremely loud when I am jacking any corner of the car. I even jacked up the left rear and used PB Blaster on every bolt and bushing I could find, to no avail.
Update
So greasing the bushings and whatnot didn't end up solving the creak after all. I just replaced my shocks, and in doing so, found out that what is likely making the noise is the upper shock mount, which is located inside the trunk. This explains why the noise almost sounds like it's coming from inside. I was going to post this as an answer and accept it, but the answer I accepted is close enough, because it probably just needs to be greased.
Is this a good question?

I have no answer. I tried jst about everything. Anyone I"ve spoken to with a Focus seams to have the same problem. Try reporting this to your nearest Ford dealer. If enough people have complained, they may have put out a silent recall. They want to keep people happy. but do not want everyone with a Focus to show up for a fix. So if the silent recall is out there, they will fix it if you complain.

I've pretty much just learned to live with it, but thanks for the tip.

I had the same issue in my Mazda 6 MPS. It was caused by the material between the rear windows and the chassi.
I went to a car glass firm and they cut the window out and removed the old "fastener" and attached the window with new. The problem disappeared after this.

I have a 2004 chrylser sebring and it's doing the same thing it's creaks when driving and makes a crunching noise when over a speed bump. I replaced all 4 of my shocks but to no avail the crunching in the rear is still there...I have no idea what to check next...

I have this issue with my Ford Escape, but it only does it when it is raining., and only then after the exhaust system has warmed up. I now find I have a big buildup of soot on the outside of the muffler. This seems to be an on going issue with many Ford models.
