Is the thermal sensor able to be replaced on its own?

I got liquid in my mid 2012 unibody MBP. It needs a new upper case because it killed the keyboard. No problem I understand and am ok with that.

However, the repair shop also said they need to replace the motherboard because the thermal sensor is damaged. Does that really require a whole new motherboard? I have a feeling the thermal sensor is damaged/making the fans spin at max because I damaged it when holding the MBP up to my space heater thinking it might dry out the insides. :(

Get a fan controlling software program for the fan. First get iStat pro and see if you have a problem: http://download.cnet.com/iStat-pro/3000-...

Thanks! I already have SMC Fan Control. Currently I cant do anything with the MBP because the keyboard is still broken. This tech assumed I needed a motherboard replacement because the fans would come on at high speed when he started it up with a working keyboard due to the thermal sensor being broken. Im not so sure I do though.

Also would holding your MBP up to a space heater damage the thermal sensor?
