After update to iOS 7 wifi and Bluetooth greyed out. Why?

I have an iPhone 4S. The wifi and Bluetooth worked perfectly on iOS 5 and 6 but after the iOS 7 update, the wifi and Bluetooth is greyed out. I tried the freezer method, and the wifi worked for a while, it found networks, but it never connected to them. I updated it to 7.0.4 and 7.1 and restored it to no avail. Does anyone have to same problem or know how to fix it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Broken or lost connection with wifi chip, this is slightly more common than people would accept. Apple should probably do a recall

I brought it to apple yesterday, they agreed that this is a common problem. But they just offered me a replacement for £159

Tom Chai is correct. Most likely the WiFi solder joints have weakened, broken. There are online videos showing how reballing using heatgun carefully can fix this. Not a simple fix, but a possible fix.

just heat the wifi chip until the phone says that it is overheating, then hold home + power until the screen goes blank and reboot, it worked for me.

Its almost as though the phones are programmed to stop working so you need to pay for a replacement or upgrade.. This problem is all over the internet, most time there is no reason for it, phone isn't hot or even warm. In most cases the phone is literally not even being held.

Ive seen this all to often to be just a technical fluke. I've worked for Bell mobility, Telus mobility and ive seen this probelm atleast once every 2 weeks, some weeks ive seen it up 4 -7 times. And it always seems to be between 1.5 - 3 years of the person owning the device.

I can accept that it could be a faulty transmitter and reciever but it happens accross all iphones and not just the older models... Why do people have to pay for a replacement when its clearly a manufacturer defect? This is unacceptable to me. Just another cash cow, weather it was intended or not.

I currently work at sasktel in canada (cell carrier) and i was helping a lady with her personal hotspot and the BT and WIFI stopped working right in the middle our session.

It's a bug within iOS. You should reset Wi-Fi internal setting by hairdryer method. This worked for me.

I had a iPhone 5 with the same problem after updating to IOS7.1 none of the methods worked for me I had to take it to apple and in the end I had to a new phone so if none of the method works then the damage is hardware not software

Mine stopped working (both wifi and bluetooth greyed out in Settings) while I was still on iOS 6 with my iPhone 4s. I just updated to iOS 7.1.2 before checking forums to see if this would fix the issue and it did not. I guess I will try heating my phone up with a hair dryer. Wish I did not switch to 7, now my phone is slow. Unbelievable!! Will check back in with update from 'hair dryer fix'
