Boot disk error- freezing constantly

For a couple of years and getting worse now my computer freezes up and I get "boot disk error" and "replace hard drive immediately, hard drive failure". I shut down, unplug, replug, start up using Startup Repair and it works for awhile then freezes again, usually after opening an attachment or clicking too fast. I'm considering a new computer but would just replacing the hard drive be a better option, or is there a software component to the problem as well?

Apparently your hard drive is failing. I would replace it immediately, then try to recover my data.
