Can I install parts from a MB unibody into MBP unibody? (A1278)
It was really confusing when I searched for the magsafe and logic boards for A1278 MBP 13. Both the MB and MBP unibodys carry the A1278 model #.
I figured since both have the same model #, the magsafe board from regular MB unibody to MBPro unibody should fit...from the pictures they looked identical. Can someone tell if this is possible? Also can I do the same with logic board?

Sorry for the delay!
In terms of the model numbers, Apple sometimes gives very different machines the same model number, for some unknown reason. Unfortunately, having the same model number doesn't automatically indicate compatibility.
For the magsafe boards, they are the same form factor, but have different part numbers printed on them. I haven't personally tried to see if they are compatible in reality, but it could be a situation similar to the original MacBooks (the magsafe ports have different part numbers, but are interchangeable
For the logic boards, the MBP 13" board is shorter and has different ports, which would also necessitate a new upper case. That gets very expensive!
In summary, the magsafe will fit, but it's your call whether you want to try it or not. The logic board is not interchangeable
Good luck!

Hi, Looking at the Apple part numbers for the two magsafe boards they are different. The MacBook Unibody has a part number of 661-4947 while the MacBook Unibody Pro has a part number of 661-5235. Because the part numbers are different I would be hesitant to substitute them. Ralph
I have all this info charted out, but don't have it with me. I'll be sure to answer tomorrow. Sorry!
Ben Eisenman,
Thank you ben, where can I get chart from?
