Non working backlight after battery replacement

Hi,

Having replaced the battery in my 16G everything workes absolutely fine except the backlight.

Tilting the %@$& iPod towards a light shows everything that I expected to see, and the device reacts to being touched over the whole of the screen.

Nope resetting the settings dosn't work.

I suspect an issue with the ribbon cable connectors or even the ribbon cables but am unsure what the solution is.

Rob...

PS a bit sad that you censor the word d.a.m.n.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

It could be something as simple as a poorly seated connector. I would recommend detaching your display and then re-seating the connection. If this does not solve the problem, it is possible that your LCD was 'zapped' during installation by the logic board, in which case you would need to replace the iPod Touch 1st Generation Display.

Thanks for your reply.

I have reseated the connectors several times without joy.

Zapping the display, it's pretty unlikely as I was being nice regarding the antistatic precautions (mat and wristband) as I work with a lot of embedded microprocessors.

I actually suspect the black ribbon cable which runs (diagonally) under the battery as it as actually attached to the glue pad holding the battery down & there is some damage to the outside edge.

I'm hoping that this cable is replaceable as I don't want to go to the expense of buying a new display for the sake of a cable.

That display cable is not sold separately and is only available as part of the LCD.

Indeed I have sourced a reasonably priced replacement, but I will have the conductive paint out at the weekend as it seems to be a hairline crack causing the issues (and once in place should hold till the next battery change)

Thanks a million

Good luck!
