Uniden UTAB71 Troubleshooting

The Uniden UTAB71 is a 7" touch screen tablet sold in Big Lots. The product was released in 2012 and is identified by model number UTAB71.

Screen Issues ¶

If your tablet's screen is having issues, read further into this section. The screen may not be cracked, blurred, or unresponsive, and it will most likely need replacing.

Unresponsive Screen ¶

If your screen is unresponsive , then the digitizer- the component that responds to touch -may be defective. This requires the digitizer to be replaced. Unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to remove a digitizer from its Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) assembly. For this reason, we advise that you replace the whole LCD assembly. Read our guide [invalid guide link] to follow the steps.

Cracked screen ¶

If the front screen of your tablet is cracked, you have to replace the screen . As already mentioned, it is extremely difficult to remove only one component from a LCD assembly. Hence, the whole LCD assembly has to be replaced. Read our guide [invalid guide link]to follow the steps.

Sound not being able to be heard ¶

Audio issues are common in tablets and occur when there is an issue hearing the sound that your tablet is supposed to be making.

Broken Speaker ¶

When the sound is not being able to be heard, check the speaker within the tablet, while it most likely is broken and has to be replaced. Before going into the tablet and checking the speakers, check your tablet's settings to check the microphone/sound and see if its volume is down and needs to be adjusted.

Power Level Issues ¶

If your device is losing power quickly, refuses to charge, or won't even turn on, then there is most likely an issue with the power supply system in the tablet. This system consists of the charger, battery, and any wires connecting them to the device.

Battery Does Not Hold Charge ¶

When the battery does not hold a charge, try using other chargers or charger ports to see if it works. If not, check the battery. When the charging in the phone is conflicted, it usually means that the battery may be bloated. This usually happens when the phone is overheated. When this happens, the battery needs to be replaced as soon as possible!

Charger is Broken ¶

Check to see if your charger works with other devices. If it does, then the problem lies within the device itself. If the charger doesn’t work, then it is time to buy a new one.

Battery is out of Life ¶

If the charger works with other devices, your battery may have ran out of its useful life. Check to see if the device recognizes if it is being charged, if so then a battery issue is probably the case. This means the battery will need to be replaced. See the battery replacement guide for details.

Charging Port is Broken ¶

If your device is not charging when plugged in, then your charging port is likely broken. There are prongs inside that touch prongs on the charger itself. Those tongs can bend and cause a faulty connection. If unable to bend the prongs back into place, you will have to replace the port itself. See the guide for step-by-step instructions on how.

Device Will Not Connect to WiFi ¶

The tablet will not connect to the internet and all internet related activities have become inaccessible.

Faulty Driver ¶

There are several things that could be causing this issue with your device. The first of which is a software malfunction. However, this can be fixed fairly easily. Turn off your tablet and visit www.southerntelecom.com. Download the firmware for your device. Run the driver installation software. Next, locate the file named LiveSuite. Exe and run it. Follow the instructions from there to get your device back up and running.

WiFi Chip is Broken ¶

If you have looked into solving the WiFi problem through software but cannot seem to figure it out. There is a hardware component that could be causing the issue. The WiFi chip in the device may have stopped working for some reason. If this happens the chip will need to be replaced.
