Sony SPP-A946 Troubleshooting

The Sony SPP-A946 is a cordless telephone with an answering system. It was produced in 1999 and is easily identifiable by the model number SPP-A946 on the bottom of the answering system.

Handset Fails To Register With Base ¶ 

The handset is not responding to and/or communicating with the base

Faulty Battery ¶ 

The battery pack might not be properly attached to the body of the phone. Check to see if the connection of the battery pack is good. This can be done by removing the battery pack and reattach it. Charge for 12 hours for best performance quality. If the phone still does not turn on, the battery is faulty. Consider purchasing a replacement battery.

Handset Out Of Sync ¶ 

The handset might be out of sync with the base and not communicating with the base properly. Place the handset back into the base and let them sync for 5 minutes.

Handset Out Of Proximity ¶ 

The handset might be out of the radius and cannot sync with the base. Consider moving closer towards the base and get into the range in which the base can receive signal from the handset.

Distorted Audio Output Over The Handset Speaker ¶ 

The audio coming out of the handset is not clear

Electronic or Other Interference ¶ 

The handset and base might be placed too close in proximity to other electronic products, which is interrupting the signal between the handheld and the base. Consider changing the location in which the base is placed, the most suitable location will be a location where there are no other electronic products.

Handset Out of Proximity ¶ 

The handset might be out of the radius and cannot sync with the base. Consider moving closer towards the base and get into the range in which the base can receive signal from the handset.

Volume Is Too High ¶ 

The distortion might be due to the volume of the handheld being turned too high. Adjust the volume by playing with the volume buttons.

Faulty Speaker ¶ 

Follow the steps to check for Faulty Connections/Wiring and Volume.  If speaker is still dysfunctional, it is most likely broken. Consider purchasing a new one to replace it.

Distorted Answering Machine Audio ¶ 

The audio on the answer machine is distorted

Volume Too High ¶ 

The distortion might be due to the volume of the handheld being turned too high. Adjust the volume by playing with the volume buttons on the base.

Faulty Connections/Wiring ¶ 

Check to make sure that the base is properly plugged in. If it is, make sure the light on the base is on. If the light is not on, the wiring might be faulty. Look for exposed wires, if found, consider purchasing a replacement wire.

Difficulty of The Other Person Hearing You ¶ 

The person on the other end of the line whom you are speaking to cannot hear you well

Not Speaking Directly Into The Handset ¶ 

The failure to capture and register your voice well might be due to the way you are using the handset. Ensure that you are speaking directly into the handset to ensure the best performance of the microphone.

Faulty Microphone ¶ 

Try speaking directly into the microphone, if the person on the other end still struggles with hearing you, then the microphone might be faulty. Consider replacing the microphone.
