Sony Handy-Cam CX260V Troubleshooting

Sony HDR-CX260V High Definition Handycam 8.9 MP Camcorder with 30x Optical Zoom and 16 GB Embedded Memory (Black) (2012 Model)

Memory Card Damage ¶

Most Common Problems & Probable Solutions:

1. Inserting & Ejecting the Memory Card: It is very common for the problem to be caused by how you insert or eject the memory card. Not inserting or ejecting properly will cause the memory card or slot to become damaged. Inserting requires you to open the cover, and insert the memory card until it clicks. When you eject the memory card, open the cover and lightly push the memory card in once.

2. Using the Correct Memory Card/Formatted: In order for the memory card to work functionally you have to make sure the memory card is the correct one for your device and that it is properly formatted. (“Memory Stick PRO Duo” media (Mark2) — 32 GB “Memory Stick PRO Duo” media “Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo” media) or (SD memory card Class 4 or faster 64 GB SD card SDHC memory card SDXC memory card).

Notes:

To ensure stable operation of the memory card, it is recommended to format the memory card with your camcorder before the first use. Formatting the memory card will erase all the data stored on it and the data will be irrecoverable. Save your important data on your PC, etc.

If [Failed to create a new Image Database File. It may be possible that there is not enough free space.] is displayed, format the memory card.

Confirm the direction of the memory card. If you forcibly insert the memory card in the wrong direction, the memory card, memory card slot, or image data may be damaged.

When inserting or ejecting the memory card, be careful so that the memory card does not pop out and drop.

Damaged Battery ¶

Most Common Problems & Probable Solutions:

1. Charging Time: Most of the time people over charge their devices which tend to overheat the battery. It is recommended that you charge the battery in a temperature range of 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F). If it overheats detach the battery from the device and let it cool down.

2.Removing Battery Pack Correctly: A lot of people have trouble removing and inserting the battery which may be the cause in your battery not functioning properly. Close the LCD screen. Slide the BATT (battery) release lever and remove the battery pack. Insert new or current battery pack.

3. Notes on the Battery Pack: When you remove the battery pack or disconnect the AC Adaptor, turn the camcorder off and make

sure that the (Movie)/ (Photo) lamps, the access lamp are turned off.

The CHG (charge) lamp flashes during charging under the following conditions.

The battery pack is not attached correctly.

The battery pack is damaged.

The temperature of the battery pack is low.

Remove the battery pack from your camcorder and put it in a warm place.

The temperature of the battery pack is high.

Remove the battery pack from your camcorder and put it in a cool place.

When attaching a video light (sold separately), it is recommended that you use an NP-FV70 or NPFV100 battery pack (HDR-CX580V/PJ580/PJ580V/PJ600/PJ600V).

We do not recommend using an NP-FV30, which only allows short recording and playback times, with your camcorder. In the default setting, the power turns off automatically if you leave your camcorder without any operation for about 2 minutes, to save battery power ([Eco Mode]).

Bad LCD Screen ¶

Most Common Problems & Probable Solutions:

1.Menu items are grayed out.

You cannot select grayed items in the current recording/playback situation.

There are some functions you cannot activate simultaneously.

2.The buttons do not appear on the touch panel.

Touch the LCD screen lightly.

Press DISPLAY on the Wireless Remote Commander.

While you are using the projector, press PROJECTOR to stop projecting images.

3.The buttons on the touch panel do not work correctly or do not work at all.

Adjust the touch panel ([Calibration]).

4.The buttons on the touch panel quickly disappear.

If you set [Display Setting] to [On], the buttons do not disappear from the touch panel while in recording mode.

5.There are dots in the shape of a grid on the screen.

These points are a normal result of the manufacturing process of the screen and do not affect the recording in any way.

The backlight of the LCD screen turns off if you do not attempt to operate

your camcorder for a while.

In the default setting, the backlight of the LCD screen turns off automatically if you do not attempt to operate your camcorder for more than about 1 minute.

Damaged Internal Speaker ¶

Most Common Problems & Probable Solutions:

1.No sound or only a quiet sound is heard during playback.

Turn up the volume.

2.Sound is quiet when the LCD screen is closed facing out. Open the LCD screen.

When you record sound with [Micref Level] set to [Low], the recorded sound may be difficult to hear. Sounds cannot be recorded while shooting with [Smth Slw REC] or [Golf Shot].

One Comment

Are ther instructions available for opening the camera to expose the memory card slot pins? I bent the receptor pins in the slot and would like to see if I can correct that. Otherwise, the Internal Memory works and the camera still provides excellent video quality.
