Smartab STJR700 Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting a Smartab is fairly straightforward due to the simplicity of the device.

Smartab won't turn on ¶ 

If your tablet is fully charged and you press the power button and it won't turn on...

Blank or Frozen Screen ¶ 

Your tablet could be frozen and may need to be restarted. Try holding down the home and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds.

If your Smartab's problem isn't solved, read on.

Faulty Battery ¶ 

If you have recently used your Smartab and it will not turn on, you may simply have a drained battery. Plug your Smartab into your computer or micro USB charger. Ideally, your Smartab will recognize it has been connected to a power source and charge the battery. If it still will not charge, the battery must be replaced. Loose Display Connector ¶ 

If it appears nothing on the screen is visible, but the battery is working properly the display connector might be damaged and must be replaced. Please refer to Smartab STJR700 display connector replacement guide.

Home Button is Unresponsive ¶ 

When you press the home button and there isn't any action...

Home Button is Stuck Inside Tablet ¶ 

If the home button on your Smartab device is stuck and unresponsive to touch, attempt to toggle the button for a minute. Make sure no debris is around the home button. You can remove any debris around the home button using a cotton swab. If this does not fix the problem, please refer to Smartab STJR700 home button replacement guide.

Home Button Doesn't Return Tablet to Home Screen ¶ 

If the home button lights up and doesn't take you back to the home screen, it is possible there is a software malfunction or faulty wiring. To solve the software malfunction, try contacting the software repairing company. To fix the faulty wiring, please refer to Smartab STJR700 home button replacement guide.

Home Button Inhibited ¶ 

When the home button still clicks but doesn't go to the home screen...

Tablet Case Inhibiting Function ¶ 

The tablet case might be applying too much force to the tablet's home button. The pressure from the case is not allowing the home button to move freely. If this is the problem, then remove or replace your case.

Device Won't Charge ¶ 

When the charger is plugged into the tablet and nothing appears to happen...

Poor Charger ¶ 

You can inspect your charging cable for any damages. Over time, the charging cable gets worn out. First, try to replace the charging cable component. The power connector, also known as the charging head, can also be replaced. Any damages to the power connector can prevent the device from charging.

Damaged Charging Port ¶ 

It is likely that the charging port needs to be replaced. The charging port could be jammed into the device and might need to be pulled out.

Any exposure to water could also prevent the device from charging. Take a look at the charging port. If there is discoloration, this can indicate water damage and rust. Please refer to the Smartab STJR700 charging port replacement guide.

Faulty Battery ¶ 

If your Smartab won't turn on, especially if it has not been used recently, you may simply have a drained battery. Plug your Smartab into your computer or micro USB charger and see if anything happens. Ideally, your Smartab will recognize it has been connected to a power source and charge its battery. If it will no longer charge, the battery must be swapped with a replacement battery.

Touchscreen Input Not Responsive ¶ 

Your Smartab is not recognizing the touch input on the front panel

Bad Touch Screen ¶ 

It is possible that the touch screen technology has malfunctioned. If so, you must remove the front panel (which includes the touchscreen and digitizer).

Cracked Screen ¶ 

Cracked screens can inhibit the touch screen technology. The Smartab has a plastic screen that can be replaced. This is an easy fix, so try replacing the screen. Please refer to the Smartab STJR700 screen replacement guide.

Malfunction in Digitizer ¶ 

The digitizer is responsible for processing images to the Smartab screen. If the digitizer is malfunctioning, errors can occur with converting analog signals to digital signals. Try replacing the digitizer. Please refer to the Smartab STJR700 digitizer replacement guide.

No Audio or Distorted Audio ¶ 

Your Smartab turns on and appears to work, but when you plug in headphones or speakers, the audio doesn't play properly.

Bad Headphones/Speakers ¶ 

It is likely your headphones or speakers are bad. Try your Smartab with another set of headphones or speaker. If they work, your previous head phones are damaged and should be discarded. If your new head phones do not work, the problem is with your Smartab.

Bad Audio Jack ¶ 

The most likely cause of audio output problems on the Smartab is a bad audio-out jack. First, try a full restore on the Smartab to make sure it is not a software issue. Plug the aux cord or headphone jack back in, if the music still is not playing then the audio-out jack on the Smartab is broken and needs to be replaced.

Poor Speaker Volume ¶ 

Using your Smartab at high volumes constantly over long periods of time causes audio distortion. The high volume can cause the speaker to blow out or distort any sounds. The sound quality might not be the same as when you first bought it. Please refer to our Smartab replacement guide.

Black screen when using back camera ¶ 

After opening the camera app and nothing appears...

Lens is Being Blocked ¶ 

Check to make sure nothing is obstructing the camera lens, and that the camera lens is clean. If you need to clean the lens, use a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, you may need to remove the lens to properly clean it. If your tablet is in a case, try removing the tablet from the case, and if your are now able to see clearly the case could have been the underlying cause.

Camera App is Malfunctioning ¶ 

Make sure nothing is blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it. Restart your device, then open the Camera app again. Since the device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping the camera icon. If you still see a black screen, refer to Smartab STJR700 Back Camera Replacement Guide.

Camera Won't Store Photos ¶ 

After taking a photo with the tablet image doesn't appear in the photo gallery...

Insufficient Internal Storage ¶ 

It may be likely that there is not enough memory on the Smartab. Try removing unnecessary applications or photos on your device. You can upload your photos on your computer to back it up.

Insufficient External Storage ¶ 

It is possible that there is not enough memory on your SD card. Try getting a new SD card or back up your photos on your computer.

Camera Mode ¶ 

A possible underlying issue is that the app might not be in camera mode. Check to see if you're on video mode and then change it to camera mode to take photos.

Poor Photo Quality ¶ 

When image is taken and photo is unclear or out of focus...

Dirty Camera Lens ¶ 

Make sure that the camera lens is clean. If you need to clean the lens, use a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, you may need to remove the lens to properly clean it. Refer to Smartab STJR700 Back Camera Replacement Guide.

Camera Lens Out of Focus While in Camera Mode ¶ 

To focus on a certain object or person, tap that object or person on the preview screen. You’ll see the screen pulse, or briefly go in and out of focus, as the camera adjusts. While in photo mode, try to stay steady when you adjust the focus. If you move too far in any direction, the camera will automatically refocus to the center.

Camera Lens Out of Focus While in Video Mode ¶ 

In video mode, you can adjust the focus before you begin recording. If you have any issues with the focus or quality of your camera, please refer to Camera Lens Out of Focus While in Camera Mode .
