Kinect doesn't turn on ¶
The Kinect will not turn on despite all of your efforts.
Kinect isn't plugged in ¶
Check if the Kinect is securely plugged into an outlet.
Outlet isn't working ¶
If you plugged it in and it still won't turn on, try plugging it into a different outlet.
Power Cord is damaged ¶
Check along the length of the power cord to see if it is damaged.
If there is damage, you can try repairing the wire for splicing the wires together which may be quite difficult. Some information about splicing the wire can found Dog chewed through Kinect USB Cable - help!
Motherboard is damaged ¶
If the three previous steps did not solve the issue, the problem may lie in a damaged motherboard.
To replace the motherboard, you can follow this guide
Kinect doesn't follow the player ¶
When you move to the edge of the screen, the Kinect does not rotate to follow your body.
Gears are dirty or jammed ¶
Check the gears within the stand and test if the gears are able to rotate smoothly. If lint or dirt is stuck in between the gears, try removing with q-tips or tweezers. Do not try to remove it roughly to prevent damage to the gears.
Gears are broken ¶
If the gears are not connected or even not compete, you may need to replace the gear system.
To replace the gear system, you can follow this guide.
Instead of replacing the motor, you would only need to follow the guide until you get to the gears.
Motor is broken ¶
If the gears turn freely and do not look damaged, the motor may be damaged
To replace the motor, you can follow this guide.
Microphone doesn't picking up sound ¶
No matter how loud you talk or where you speak, the microphone doesn't respond to any commands.
Re-calibration is needed ¶
Calibration sets the audio settings depending on the room the calibration occurs. If you have moved furniture around after calibrating your Kinect, you may need to re-calibrate the Kinect.
Microphone is dead ¶
If the microphone doesn't pick up any sound regardless of what you do, you may need to replace it entirely.
To replace the microphone, you can follow this guide.
Camera doesn't recognize the user ¶
No matter how much you move, the Kinect does not register a user.
Lenses are dirty or smudged ¶
If there is visible dirt/lint on the lenses, clean them off with a soft-bristled brush so that you won't scratch them. With smudges, clean with a microfiber cloth, wiping in a circular motion. If it does not remove the smudge, apply a few drops of lens cleaning solution to the cloth (NOT TO THE LENS ITSELF) and continue wiping.
Lenses are cracked or damaged ¶
If the cameras are damaged, with either scratched lenses or completely dead cameras, they may need to be replaced.
To replace the cameras, you can follow this guide.
If only the outside lenses are cracked, you can just replace the case following this guide.
