Dust or Debris in the Key Mechanism
Even small particles can block the switch actuation, especially in mechanical keyboards
- Turn off your computer and unplug the keyboard or power it off.
- Gently flip over the keyboard and tap the back over a trash can to remove any crumbs and large particles
- Hold the keyboard and spray in short bursts using compressed air between keys and under the mechanism
- Use a soft-bristled brush (like a toothbrush) to sweep dust from key gaps and under the mechanism
- Use a keycap puller, flat tool, or your fingers to gently lift and remove the keycap. Clean the underside with a soft brush and a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol (damp, not dripping)
- If keys are sticky, use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol to dissolve residue, and let dry before reassembly
- Use a microfiber cloth to do one final wipe, and ensure no moisture remains before plugging the keyboard in, or powering on.
Faulty or Worn Key Switch
If the switch is defective, it may not register keystrokes. On “hot‑swappable” K8 models.

Firmware or Software Glitches
Corrupted firmware or OS‑level issues can cause keys to stop responding in both wireless and wired modes
- Basic Check - Both Modes
- Test on a different computer/device
- Use a direct USB‑C connection
- Ensure Keychron Launcher and OS drivers are up to date
- Check power indicator:
- Red light, no input - charge for ~24 h
- Green light, no input - try factory reset (press and hold Fn + Z + J for 4 s)
- No light - try different charging cable
- Green light, no input - try factory reset (press and hold Fn + Z + J for 4 s)
- If still no light, check battery/PCB connectio
- Firmware Update – Both modes (Only do this if the keyboard is unresponsive in both modes or after a failed update)
- Switch to cable mode
- Download the correct K8 firmware from Keychron’s site
- For the K8 white backlight version keyboard, open the K8 firmware which fits your K8 keyboard, then clasp the two short circuits together with sharp tweezers, then at the same time click start. For K8 RGB backlight version keyboard, open the K8 firmware which fits your K8 keyboard, then clasp the second and the final short circuit together with sharp tweezers then at the same time click start.
- Wait for success, then remove tweezers and reinstall the keycap.
- Wireless Only

- Download the correct K8 firmware from Keychron’s site
- Forget the device in Bluetooth settings.
- Turn off, briefly wait, then power back on the keyboard and device.
- Re‑pair using the Keychron Launcher.
- If still not recognized, update firmware in cable mode as above, then re‑pair.
- Wired Only
- If these steps do not work, refer to the “Power or Hardware Faults” section below
Wireless Connection Problems
In Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz mode, interference, weak signal, or pairing issues can cause delayed or missing inputs. Ensure that Bluetooth connection is established before using the Keyboard in wireless mode.
- Test the keyboard on another device. If the keyboard works on another device, the issue may lie in the host device’s Bluetooth
- Power Settings - In your device manager for Windows, disable “Allow this device to turn off”, turn off USB selective suspend in Power Options, and disable keyboard auto-sleep in settings
- Forcing 2.4 GHz Mode – Switch to 2.4 GHz mode, press and hold Fn + 4 on the keyboard for 4 s, plug in the USB receiver, and re‑pair
- Factory Reset - To factory reset your keyboard, turn it on and press and hold Fn + J + Z for about 4 seconds until the backlight flashes red for three seconds
Power or Hardware Faults
Insufficient power, USB port issues, or internal PCB problems can affect key registration, in both wireless and wired modes.
- Faulty USB‑C cable, loose battery connection, or insufficient charge
- Test with a different USB‑C cable and wall charger
- If the power LED is red but no input, charge for ~24 h with a reliable wall adapter
- If the LED is green but no input, try a factory reset (Fn + Z + J for 4 s)
- If no LED lights at all, suspect a loose battery connection — open the case and reseat the battery to the PCB
