Iomega Z100S2 Troubleshooting

Note: This troubleshooting page covers only the Iomega Z100S2 Zip Drive.

Zip Drive not recognized by computer ¶ 

The zip drive in not recognized by the computer when plugged in.

Bad port ¶ 

The zip drive may be plugged into a faulty port. Try plugging the device into another port.

Faulty cord ¶ 

The cord might be damaged in some way. Try replacing the connection cord and make sure the zip drive is on before plugging it back into the computer.

Not compatible with current operating system ¶ 

Your operating system is not compatible with the zip drive.

Older operating system ¶ 

Since the device is relatively old, it may not be compatible with your computer's current operating system. Try using the zip drive on a computer with an older operating system such as: Microsoft Windows 95 or 98, Linux, Mac OS 6.x 7.1-7.5 and Mac OS 7.6 to 9.2.

Zip drive not being read correctly ¶ 

Your device is not reading zip drives.

Faulty logic board ¶ 

This could be due to a faulty logic board. You can use our free repair guide to remove the logic board and check for any obvious damage.

Zip drive doesn't save files ¶ 

The device will not save files to a zip drive.

Faulty logic board ¶ 

Most likely due to a faulty logic board. Your best bet is to remove and the logic board and check for any damages.

Device will not turn on ¶ 

Try switching the power off and on again. If that doesn't work, try changing power sources (outlets). If none of that works your only option will be to replace the power cord.

"Click of Death" ¶ 

If you hear the "Click of Death" your device has mostly likely failed and you will need to replace it. If you heard "the click" and your device is still working do not continue to use it, all the data on your drive will be lost!

Zip drive will not work ¶ 

If you have exhausted all other options, your best course of action is to buy a new zip drive.
