HP Probook 450 G8 Touchpad is Unresponsive
A commonly reported issue is when the touchpad is not responsive, or the cursor is moving randomly without prompting. Navigating the screen, clicking on gadgets, and multi-finger scrolling may not be possible. In this troubleshooting guide, we will explore some possible causes and solutions, as well as any necessary links to repair guides.
Physical Damage or Swelling
If the touchpad is raised above the level of the keyboard, or if it appears in any way to be swollen, there is a chance that there is an issue with the internal components.
Refer to the (Touchpad Repair Guide) for instructions on how to disassemble and replace the touchpad.
The ‘Disable Zone’ may have been initiated
Some models of the HP Probook 450 G8 have a “double tap to disable” zone.
- Attempt to turn the touchpad off and on by double tapping the top left corner of the touchpad. Double tapping may enable the touchpad if it had previously been disabled. Double tap again to re-enable if it does not result in a working touchpad according to HP Support.
Test and Check Settings
* The issue may stem from software issues according to the HP Support Community. To address this, open the settings, click on ‘bluetooth and devices’. Select ‘touchpad’. It will tell you if the touchpad is turned off. If not, press ‘enable’.
- Check the Windows Troubleshooter by opening Settings. Click ‘Update and Security’ then click ‘Troubleshoot’, then ‘Additional Troubleshooters’. Click ‘Touchpad’ and then run the troubleshooter.
Update Windows
Update your HP Probook in the following steps as instructed by HP Community. This can help refresh the system driver, patch bugs, and fix corrupted settings. Follow the following steps to update your Windows.
- Ensure it is connected to the internet.
- Navigate to Settings in the Start menu.
- Click Updates & Security.
- Click on Windows Updates, and then Check for Updates.
- Install updates if there are any.
- It may need to be restarted after the update.
Perform a Hard Full-Power Reset
Residual electrical charge from the motherboard may have resulted in freezing the touchpad. This is likely the case if your cursor is moving sporadically without prompting. This issue can be addressed by attempting a power drain, through a hard reset according to HP Support Community.
- Hold down the power button to shut it down completely .
- Ensure that it is not plugged into anything. It must not be plugged into a wall charger with an AC adapter (a large box in the chord). Remove any attached printers, or other non-essential accessories.
- With everything unplugged, hold down the power button for 15-30 full seconds to drain any residual power.
- Plug it back into its wall charger with an AC adapter, and turn it back on normally.
