HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook Touchpad Unresponsive
The HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook Touchpad is unresponsive and the mouse on screen doesn't move when inputted.
Dirty Touchpad
Dirts, oils and dust can accumulate on the touchpad over a long period of time. Since the touchpad relies on sensors to detect finger movements, the contaminants can interfere with the sensors registering inputs.
Signs of this problem are,
- Cursor skips, jumps or moves inconsistently.
- Some areas of the touchpad simply do not respond
- Touchpad becoming extremely unreliable after exposure of moisture.
Try these solutions
- Use a clean dry microfiber cloth/towel to gently wipe the touchpad and then test the touchpad.
- Use a clean wipe to wipe down the touchpad and allow it to dry before testing the touchpad again.
Software Malfunction
There's a chance that ChromeOS may have software malfunctions that prevent the touchpad from communicating properly, all that needs to be done is reset the hardware.
- Press and hold down the refresh key on your Chromebook.
- While holding Refresh, press on the power button.
- Then release the refresh button when the Chromebook starts.
Incorrect Touchpad Settings
Chromebooks have several touchpad settings that control, clicking, cursor speed and scrolling. Sometimes if the settings are changed, the touchpad seems to malfunction.
Signs of this problem are,
- The cursor still moves, but when you tap the touchpad it doesn't register a click
- The cursor moves unusually slow
All you need to do is go into settings and adjust the touchpad settings yourself to what's most comfortable for you.
- Open settings
- Select Device, then go into Touchpad.
- Review all settings, like Adjusting the touchpad speed slider, enabling or disabling tap to click and reviewing the scrolling settings and adjust them as you see fit.
Loose or Damages Touchpad Connection
The touchpad communicates with the Chromebook's motherboard through an internal connection. If this damage is in any way tampered with or damaged the Chromebook will not receive signals from the touchpad. An issue like this can occurs if the Chromebook was dropped or improperly reassembled after a previous repair.
Signs of this problem are,
- The touchpad stops responding
- The cursor is constantly freezing
- An external USB mouse works normally
- The issue began after dropping the Chromebook or after a physical repair.
You can find instructions on how to fix the Touchpad connection here.
