Dyson V15 Detect only stays on for a few seconds before turning off, or otherwise turns off unexpectedly when the trigger is pressed. Follow this guide to troubleshoot this issue.

A common issue for Dyson vacuums are faulty capacitors on the printed circuit board (PCB) that result in the vacuum shutting off after only a few seconds, sometimes accompanied by a high-pitched whirring sound. Repairing this is more involved, but potentially cheap and fast depending on your soldering skill level and available tools. A poor connection between the battery and the main vacuum body may cause the vacuum to shut off during use. Disconnect and reconnect the vacuum, ensuring there are no obstructions and the connection is secure.

A clogged or dirty filter can cause the vacuum to overheat, which will cause the vacuum to automatically shut down. Per Dyson, this filter should be cleaned once a month. Follow these steps to clean your filter:

Remove the filter from your vacuum, and remove any excess dust by gently tapping the filter over a dust bin/sink.
Rinse the filter with cold water, gently rubbing away dust as you do. Do not use soap or detergent.
Fill the filter with warm water, then firmly shake the filter with the opening covered. Repeat until the water runs clear when you empty it.
Allow the filter to air dry for 24 hours. Using a wet filter on your vacuum can cause further damage, so make sure it is fully dry before reconnecting!
