August Smart Lock Troubleshooting
- There is no light on the front of the lock
- Speaker is not making noise
- Device shows no response
- Device not connecting to the phone
- Device is not unlocking or locking the door
This page will help you troubleshoot issues for the August Smart Lock.
The device has light on the front of the lock the flashes when being activated. The LED is not working even though the lock has power.
You may have to replace the LED light that is located within the device. The LED is an indicator of connection as well as power.
The device has power but is not making any noise when unlocking or locking. This is indicated by the LED working demonstrating that the lock still has power.
There is a possibility that the speaker located within the device is busted. Follow the replacement guide here for help with that issue.
If replacing the speaker does not work, you may have to go in and replace the motherboard. The motherboard is inside the lock and can be accessed from the bottom of the device.
The device is not powering on and there is no flashing light on the front. The device will not connect to any smartphone either.
If the device is not powering on, the first thing to try and do is replace the batteries. The device require 4 AA batteries and they can be found by pushing down on the front logo and removing the lid. After removing the lid, you will find the batteries. To get to the ones beneath the visible ones, pull the red flap.
The device manually locks but does not lock with while using the application. The device has power but the app is unable to connect to the lock.
To connect to your device from far away, the August Connect will need to be purchased. More information can be found on the August website.
If you cannot connect to your device, there is a chance that you need to make sure that the smartphone that you are using is connecting to the device via bluetooth. Go to the settings in your phone and make sure that bluetooth is on and that it is connected to the device.
If the above does not fix the issue, there may be an issue with the motherboard. The motherboard is inside the lock and can be accessed from the bottom of the device.
The device has power but is not unlocking or locking the door. There is no motion within the lock itself except when using manually.
There is a possibility if the device is not working properly that the batteries are dead. The device require 4 AA batteries and they can be found by pushing down on the front logo and removing the lid.
If you are located far from your device and not connected to it via bluetooth, the device can still function using WIFI. Check your WIFI setting and make sure you are connected via WIFI. Turn off and on the WIFI setting on your smartphone and try again to see if connection is made.
Make sure that you are connected to your device via Bluetooth. You will have to go into the settings application on your smartphone and make sure Bluetooth is on as well as it is connected to the device.
There is a possibility one of the gears inside the lock broke. The gears are located within the lock and accessed through the bottom of the device. In order to replace it, follow the guide here.
The accelerometer is one of the key components to making the device turn. Along with the motor and the gears, it is helps control the turning and the speed at which the device turns. To replace the accelerometer, follow the guide here.
If the above does not solve the issue, there is a possibility that you may have to replace the motherboard. The motherboard is located within the device and needs to be accessed in the bottom part of the device.
