Asus Zenbook UX31E Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Asus UX31E
Your device has been randomly turning off without any notification.
Computers can easily overheat when there is excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents and fans. To fix this, use a compressed air duster to carefully blow the dust off the vents and fan. An alternative to that is to clean the vents by sucking out air with a vacuum cleaner.
Since most laptops air vents are at the bottom, leaving the laptop sitting on surfaces such as blankets, pillows, or couches will disturb its airflow. This can be easily avoided by keeping the laptop on a hard and flat surface such as a table or keeping the laptop on top of your textbook while placed on your lap. An alternative is to invest in a laptop cooler, they provide extra cooling when the device is placed on surfaces such as your pillow.
If there is too much data going through the CPU, it will start of overheat. One way to manage the workload of the CPU is to make sure not have a bunch unnecessary things open and running at the same time. If there are multiple applications open and running at the same time, then it would be too intense for the device and you will see it shutting down without a notification.
You have problems with the battery and power adapter.
Make sure your power adapter is plugged in and the light signifying that the it’s charging is on. If that light is not on while the power adapter is plugged in, then the power adapter is possibly defective and not working. You should consider obtaining a new power adapter.
Be sure that the power adapter is plugged in working and the light is on as well. The battery is flawed if the laptop only turns when plugged in, or the battery is significantly shorter than usual. Replace the battery by following this guide.
You are sure that the device is on, but nothing is displaying on the screen.
Make sure that you did not accidentally turn off the LCD display. To check if this is your problem, hit the function key (fn) located on the bottom left part of your keyboard next to the left-control key and hit the f7 key. This will toggle your LCD screen on and off.
If this fails, your screen may be in external monitor mode. To fix this, hit the function key once again, but this time hit the f8 key. This will toggle your screen between external monitors and your Zenbook’s LCD display.
You are unable to get past the Windows’ boot screen.
If you are unable to get past the BIOS (the screen before Windows), there are most likely issues with your hard drive. In many cases, this can be resolved by using a Windows Repair Tool for whichever OS you are running (in this case it will be a USB with the software on it as the Asus ZenBook UX31 is lacking a disk drive). To do this, insert your USB and press any key when prompted to as this will take you towards the next step. After this, choose your language settings and click next. Finally, select a recovery option.
If booting up is still an issue and you are having no success with Windows Repair, you will need to replace your hard drive.
You have trouble listening to sounds on your computer.
First, make sure the your headphone cable is properly attached and there is no broken connection. The cable needs to be plugged into the right output jack, which in our case is the audio jack (green). Set the volume control to a listenable volume so you can test the sound. If there is sound then it might be a faulty driver. If there is still no sound test the connection with a working cable in order to make sure its the cable that's faulty and not the speaker wire. Lastly, the problem could be a mismatch of cables in the inside of the computer which will be referenced in this guide.
If the audio is improperly working on the Asus Zenbook UX31E it may because of your sound driver. This could be a problem with your laptop’s driver. Try to uninstall the audio driver and then install it again. This can be done by pressing the Window’s Key + X Key and then selecting “My Device Manager”. After this click “Audio Inputs and Outputs” and then select your driver. Next click “Update driver software..” and then restart your computer to complete the driver troubleshooting. It’s also suggested that you open “My Device Manager” and look for a yellow exclamation mark or a red triangle. If there are then, you should install the drivers following the instructions prompted by these errors since Windows will not be able to automatically find drivers for you.
