Power Adapter Issues ¶

Make sure the power adapter is plugged in to both the PC and wall.

Check the power indicator light when the power button is hit to see if the PC has power.

If the power indicator light does not turn on, you may have a bad power adapter that needs to be replaced.

The power adapter may also be temporarily overheated.

Rechargeable Battery Issues ¶

Make sure battery is properly connected into the PC.

Check the power indicator light when you hit the power button to see if the PC is receiving power from the battery.

  • If the indicator light does not illuminate when you hit the power button, you may have a bad battery.
    • If you connect the battery charger to the computer and it still fails to turn on, you may have a different problem.
    • If you connect the battery charger to the computer and it turns on, look in the bottom right corner of your screen to see battery conditions.
      • If the battery is charging, remove the charger to see if the computer stays on. If it does, your battery may be fine. If not, you have a bad battery that may indicate that it is charging, but is not actually holding a charge.
      • If battery is charging but the charge level is not moving up in percentage, you have a bad battery that is not holding charge.
      • If battery is not shown to be charging, check the connection of the battery. If it is connected properly, you may have a bad battery that is not holding a charge. You could also have an issue with the battery making contact with the actual contacts of the computer, in which case try cleaning the contacts out with a q tip and computer dusk cleaner. If that doesn’t work, your contacts may have rusted out.

If you are having problems with your display, the rechargeable battery is an area to look if you have isolated the problem to being a power based one.

    • If you connect the battery charger to the computer and it turns on, the display is working.

If the screen is displaying something, but is running dimmer than usual, it may be a battery issue, a LCD screen issue, or a smaller intermittent issue.

  • Try powering computer with the charger.
    • If the screen is brighter, it is likely a battery issue.
    • If the screen is still dim, it is likely another issue.

LCD Screen Issues ¶

  • If the battery power supply and charger are both working properly, you may have an issue with the actual screen itself. Try to unplug the laptop and remove the battery then hold down the power button for ten seconds then place the battery back and plug the adaptor back and try to turn it back on and see if the LCD works.
  • If the screen is displaying a dim or fuzzy output and you checked the potential power issues, you may have to replace the screen.
    • In addition, if instead the computer is turning on when you hit the power button, but the screen is not displaying anything, you may have to replace the screen.
      • Before you replace the screen, check for issues with the graphics processor and CPU before spending money on replacing the screen.

Boot Up Issues For The Asus Eee PC 1005HA ¶

RAM Issues ¶

Damaged or insufficient RAM sticks can prevent a computer from leaving the boot up process of a computer.

Damaged or insufficient RAM can also cause a computer to take a long time to get out of the boot up process of the computer.

Damaged or insufficient RAM also can cause a computer to crash during the boot up screen if too many processes are attempted.

    • If you are still having issues after checking your RAM and cleaning its contacts, you will likely have to replace the RAM sticks.

Hard Drive Issues ¶

A hard drive is critical when booting up a computer, as it contains the necessary data, programs, and files to get the computer up and operational.

A damaged hard drive can cause issues when attempting to boot up a computer.

  • One issue that can occur if the hard drive is damaged is if the computer attempts and fails to boot.
    • An error code will likely pop up if the hard drive is having issues, and outright tell you that the computer is having problems finding the necessary program files needed to boot. When a computer is having issues finding program files, this is an indication of a hard drive issue.
  • Sometimes a hard drive is damaged to the point that the computer will be turned on and almost immediately fail to boot and turn of.

RAM ¶

If your computer is running sluggishly, taking long periods of time to open programs and run commands, and you know that your computer is virus free, then it is likely you have a RAM issue.

  • Open up your task manager and attempt to run a program you are having issues with. If you see memory usage jumps up to a high percentage, you almost definitely have a RAM issue.
  • If you get a message saying that you lack sufficient memory when attempting to open up a program you used to be able to open with ease, you have a RAM issue.
  • If you are experiencing slow load times on your internet browser but your internet speeds are fine elsewhere in your house you have a RAM issue.
  • Before you replace your RAM sticks, remove them from the computer, clean the contacts, and place them back in correctly. If the slowdown issue is gone, the RAM sticks were not making good contact with the computers contacts.
    • If you are still having issues, you should look into replacing the RAM sticks.

Hard Drive ¶

If you are not having slow down while using the internet, but experience slow load times and corruption when attempting to open files, you likely have a hard drive issue.

  • If the headphone connecter (male ended) fails to stay within audio jack (female end), you have an audio jack issue that requires replacing the jack.
