Echo Will Not Turn On

The device will not turn on and does not respond to commands.

Not Plugged in Correctly

The power cord may not be plugged in correctly, so ensure that it is completely inserted into the adapter port of the echo. The USB should also be correctly inserted inside of the 9W power adapter. Make sure that the power adapter is plugged into a working outlet. Press the action button, and see if it responds.

Faulty Power Cord

Something may be wrong with the power cord itself. Check the power cord for any exposed or frayed wires, if found, replace the power cord.

Will Not Connect to Wi-Fi

The device will not connect to Wi-Fi. A connection is indicated by the light ring showing solid blue.

The Echo is Out of Range of the Router

Your device may be too far from the Wi-Fi router; try moving the echo closer to the source. other devices( such as microwaves, baby monitors, and other wireless devices) may be causing interference, move the Echo away from these sources.

Check the Wi-Fi Password

Make sure that the password being entered is the correct password and that is being entered correctly; most passwords are case sensitive.

Faulty Router

The problem may be stemming from your Wi-Fi router. Try rebooting your router by turning it off for 30 seconds, and turning it back on. Reconnect the echo to the Wi-Fi once it is restored. This will disconnect any devices currently connected to the Wi-Fi.

Broken Wi-Fi Module

If the echo is still not connecting, it may be an internal issue. Follow this guide to replace the motherboard.

Bluetooth Will Not Connect

The echo will not pair to the Bluetooth device. Streaming and other Bluetooth functions will not work.

Out of Range

Ensure that your device is within 30 feet of the echo or it will affect the communication between the devices.

Bluetooth is not turned on On your Device

If your device supports Bluetooth connections, be sure that the Bluetooth settings are on. Then try to pair with the echo.

The Echo is Not Connected to Bluetooth

Check your device’s Bluetooth settings to see if it is connected to the echo dot. If not, say “Alexa, pair” and select the Amazon Echo from the settings to connect.

Bluetooth Module is Broken

If Bluetooth still will not connect, there may be a problem with the motherboard. Follow this guide to replace the motherboard.

Alexa “Doesn’t Understand” Command

After saying a command, alexa says that she cannot complete the command or did not understand the command.

You are Speaking Too Quietly or Unclearly

Be sure to say your command clearly and at a reasonable volume. Also, make sure that there is not too much background noise, as it can hinder Alexa’s ability to understand and respond.

There is Interference

Make sure the device is at least 8 inches from walls and other objects. The device may be experiencing interference from other wireless devices; move them away from these sources.

The Commands are Too Complex

Rephrase your command in simpler terms. The more simple the command, the more likely the echo will have the correct response.

Echo Activates Without Command

The echo wakes up without having been commanded.

Your Echo Settings are Too Broad

Check your echo dot for the command triggers. If there are too many, then Alexa may begin to respond to outside noise.

There is Too Much Outside Noise

The echo may be responding to other background noise. Try relocating the echo to a more quiet location.

Echo Needs to be Reset

Try resetting your echo by pressing and holding the ‘microphone off’ and ‘volume down’ button until the light ring turns orange and then blue again. The light ring will turn on and then off again, and orange once more, allowing you to restart the echo setup.

My echo dot is connected through my receiver to a second set of speakers on the patio. However, the dot itself is silent now. So if I ask what time it is, I have to go outside to hear. I have said volume 10, I have pressed the + button, I have rebooted with power cord. What else can I do?

With external speakers attached to the echo dot either with a cord or bluetooth you will not hear anything from the device only the speakers. There is not a way to hear it in both locations because the internal speaker mutes when other speakers ste connected.

When I check devices, it shows that I have 3 echo dots and I have only one.

I have an echo dot, that when I ask to play music the music volume is to low to hear without having your ear up to the speaker.  The volume is turned up so high that Alexa seem like it is yelling at you. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I recently moved. I have spent hours trying to connect my echo. Followed every piece of advice from the internet. It worked fine at my old house. I seriously want to throw it through the window.
