Device Will Not Charge ¶

“My laptop is having issues charging.”

Dead Outlet ¶

Make sure the outlet you are connecting your laptop charger to is working. You can plug in a light to see if it turns on, or try another outlet that you know for certain is working.

Charger Not Completely Connected ¶

Double-check to ensure that your charger is connected securely to the outlet, power adapter, and laptop.

Old Firmware Bug ¶

If your laptop refuses to charge because it does not recognize your battery when attached to the charger, it is likely succumbing to a bug in the old BIOS firmware. The bug can be fixed by updating the BIOS firmware found on the Acer website here.

Fried Charger ¶

If your laptop does not recognize when your charger is plugged in, and it was capable of running without a charger connection before it died, then the charger was likely fried. Meaning for some reason (dirty power, internal component corrosion, etc.) your charger may need a replacement. Luckily, you can find replacement chargers fairly cheap online.

Bad Battery ¶

If your laptop is capable of running perfectly fine while plugged in but dies as soon as it is unplugged (cannot hold a charge), then you might have a bad battery. In this case, you have to purchase a new battery.

Will Not Connect to Internet ¶

"My laptop refuses to connect to the Internet.”

Wireless Connection Disabled ¶

If your laptop cannot connect to your router, your laptop’s connectivity may be switched off. Check for a manual switch on the front of your laptop or above the keyboard, and ensure that it is set to the “on” position.

Network Settings Not Configured ¶

If your laptop’s connectivity is enabled, but still cannot connect to your router, your network settings may not be configured properly. Click the network icon on the task bar in the lower-right corner of your screen to display a list of nearby wireless networks. The network you are connecting to is displaying at the top of the list.

If you cannot log into any networks, select your router’s name from the list and click “Connect.” When prompted, type your router’s security key into the provided field, and click “OK.”

Wireless Interference ¶

If your laptop cannot detect your router, other devices may be causing wireless interference, including cell phones, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens, and even bad electrical connections. Move your laptop away from any sources of interference, then check your network settings to see if your connection has improved.

Out of Range ¶

Most wireless routers have a maximum indoor signal range of 50 feet. If your laptop is more than 50 feet away from your router, move it within range and check your network settings to see if your connection has improved.

Router Malfunctions ¶

Your router may be experiencing hardware issues. See your router’s instruction manual for further details.

Wired Connection Unplugged ¶

If your laptop connects to a wired router, your Ethernet cable may not be plugged in properly. Remove and re-insert the cable end into your laptop’s port until it clicks.

Service Provider Experiencing Issues ¶

If your laptop can connect to your router, but you are still not able to log into the internet, your internet service provider may be experiencing issues. Contact your service provider for further details.

Connection Disrupted ¶

On some networks, if your laptop’s connection is disrupted, your laptop may not be able to reconnect properly. Locate the connectivity switch at the front of your notebook or above your keyboard, turn it off for ten seconds, and then turn it back on. If your laptop still cannot reconnect to your router, you may need to restart your computer.
