Asus X200CA Troubleshooting

This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Asus X200CA.

Overheating ¶ 

"The laptop becomes very hot and suddenly turns off."

Dust in Vents or Fans ¶ 

Laptops can overheat due to dust and other material accumulating in the fan. To fix this, remove the fan and use a compressed air duster and carefully hit the fan with short bursts of air from several angles to blow the dust away.

Insufficient Thermal Paste ¶ 

After several years of use the thermal paste between the CPU and cooler starts to degrade meaning that there is no longer adequate contact between the heatsink and processor. To fix this, completely remove the old thermal paste, then apply a bead of new thermal paste directly to the center of the processor.

Battery Not Charging ¶ 

“My laptop is not turning on after taking it off the charger.”

Plug is Not Connected to Wall Outlet ¶ 

Check to see if the charger is plugged into the computer and also an outlet. Try a different outlet to ensure that it is not a problem with the power of the first outlet.

Dead Battery ¶ 

If your laptop will only function while being connected to an outlet, your battery may be faulty. To fix this, replace your battery.

Damaged Battery ¶ 

If your laptop will not turn on, check your battery for any physical damage or water damage. If you find evidence of damage your battery will need to be replaced.

Issue with Charger ¶ 

Check to see if the charger is one that is recommended to use by the manufacturer. If not, obtain a recommended charger. Check to see if your device will charge with a different charger. If this is the case you will need to replace the charger you have.

Keyboard Not Responding ¶ 

“Some or all of the keys will not type.”

Keys are Stuck ¶ 

There might be crumbs stuck inside your keyboard. Try holding your laptop upside down or at a 45 degree angle from being horizontal and give it a few good shakes that will dislodge anything stuck between your keys. Use a keyboard vacuum or a can of compressed air, these can help to remove any particles in between the keys interfering with its usability.

Loose Cable ¶ 

The ribbon cable connected to the keyboard may have come loose. Fix this by reconnecting the cable.

Water Damage ¶ 

If you spilled any liquids, especially soda that can get sticky when dried, apply some cleaning solution, such as rubbing alcohol or soapy water, to a dish towel and gently rub down the affected keys. You can also remove keys and wipe it from the inside.

If those methods are not applicable, try rebooting your computer. If none of these work, try replacing the keyboard.

Not Connecting to Wifi ¶ 

"Laptop device does not connect to local or designated WiFi which prevents access to the Internet."

Finding the Correct Network ¶ 

On the device’s Home Screen, click on the Network icon in the bottom right corner of the page. All local networks will appear, click on the appropriate network to access the Internet. Enter password if needed.

Creating a Wireless Hotspot ¶ 

On the device’s Home Screen, click on the Network icon in the bottom right corner of the page and click on Network Setting. A new window will appear and at the bottom with the option of Use as Hotspot. Click Turn On to confirm this authorization. Click on this option to make your device a hotspot for other electronical devices. For devices to connect, near devices will need your device’s SSID and security key.

Laptop Not Turning On ¶ 

"The laptop screen is black even after pressing the power button."

Drained Battery ¶ 

The battery may not be charged. To fix this, plug in the laptop to charge.

Bad Battery ¶ 

First check to see if the battery has run out of charge by plugging in the laptop. If the battery is not charging you have a bad battery and need to replace it.

Broken Display Screen ¶ 

If it appears that nothing is happening but you know that the battery is charged and functional, you may need to replace the display.
