They can be purchased as two seperate pieces, but I highly recommend buying the complete assembly instead of fiddling with glueing them together.
Likely a damaged LCD or LCD cable.
Look for a model number on the back of your tablet and search ebay, MobileSentrix, etc for a digitizer. The correct adhesive tape to use is Tesa 61395, sold by iFixit and elsewhere.
Go back to step 10 and make sure the display cable is firmly seated
I bought the display adhesive strips from iFixit but I cannot get the display assembly to adhere to them. How do I do this?
Youtube video linked shows removal of earpiece speaker, which is totally unnecessary for this procedure. Wound up breaking the speaker while trying to remove it.
Oh this is definitely not something you do every time. Spraying canned air into the vents should suffice. This is a deep clean tutorial. I do this about once a year (may vary more or less depending where you live)

Did you ensure you connected the cables in the right order?
Yeah, it's not the most obvious. IIRC I detached it it using a small slot screwdriver. Alternate between sides, gently and gradually prying it loose.
