there is a iphone 4 , iphone 4 (CDMA) and iphone 4S. the iphone 4/4(cdma) have the same battery and the iphone 4s has its own battery. make sure you have the right battery for the device you are working on.
something is obviously shorted to ground, check the coil and caps and see if they are shorted. if you get it to work but the back light is dim you need the coil replaced. hope your back light IC is not damaged.
it could be a bad battery or it could be a bad charger port. best bet is to use a multi meter to measure voltage from the battery/battery connector to tell if power is flowing to the battery.
there is no problem, your itunes needs to download the new ios version. in some cases itunes can NOT restore a old version of IOS and needs to update it. even in the case that it would will still need to download the IOS package to install onto your iphone,
might be stuck in recovery try using the mute switch to see if it vibrates when switching. if it vibrates then its a screen issue. if not then its in recovery.
