Answer to: Hard Drive Upgrade LimitThe Western Digital Scorpio Blue (WD10TPVT) 1TB fits. Its has a12.5 mm height and I have one installed in the upper bay. Its snug but works fine.
Answer to: Do all of the Mac Mini models support a second hard drive? There is no such restraint. second HD installs in all 2011 models.
Answer to: Make silent extra cooling for noisy Mini server?while this doesn't answer your question specifically, the cooling strategies may point you in the right direction. Should I replace the thermal paste on my mini? Cheers

(3) Case temperature: 43.4 degrees measured with ON-409 and ON-909 Series Surface Thermistor Temperature Sensors placed at positions 3 cm from each corner on the top of the mini. 5th sensor placed just below the apple. Answer to: SSD Corruption requiring reinstall of from a backup. It's been RMA'd today. I also ordered a Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC. The intervals between total data loss where becoming shorter, so I suspect that it was the drive. Update I have not had any problems with the Crucial SSD. The Kingston drive ran quite a bit hotter.
Answer to: Should I replace the thermal paste on my mini?replacing the heatsink's interface reduced my mini cpu temp to 55 degrees c idle (down from 65~70 C) and it rarely tops over 85 degrees C with plex running. I used Arctic Silver 5 and it was well worth the effort. My mini is not nearly as well vented as yours, in fact it pulls in a fair amount of heat from my receiver. Considering the environment, the AS5 dropped the operating temperature more than 10 degrees. Hope that helps.
Answer to: Does anyone know if two 15mm tall drives will fit into the Mac mini?I have successfully installed the 12.5 mm WD Scorpio Blue (1TB) in the upper bay. I do not have a heat issue, especially after replacing the heat sink interface with Arctic Silver 5 Thermal paste. Its snug, but it slipped in easily. I agree with ABCellars with regards to the SSD as the boot drive. The WD is only 5200 rpms but it is plenty fast for a storage drive. Power consumption is well within the capabilities of the power supply, so I wouldn't worry about that.
