Answer to: How come iPhone needs usb cable in connector to function properly?Hi oldturkey03. I finally found the time to replace the dock connector. It does not seem to have solved the problem. It stays on every now and then without being connected to the USB cable. Charging is very slow. Maybe I have to check the logic board. I saw one rusty screw near the volume down button (one of the three broad screws on the long side). The water damage indicators were white, though. If you have any suggestions, feel free to type them.
