Fix Your Stuff

Right to Repair

Hi, I’m Thomas Shea, and I am currently a senior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA where we all “bleed purple.” I changed majors in the spring of my junior year from Public Policy to Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication (WRTC). I am almost done with my first semester in this major, with two more semesters to go (so I will be a “super senior” in the fall and graduate in December 2020).

My dream is to be a writer/critic for a car magazine/website. I would like to test drive sports cars and then provide first hand reviews. I am fairly knowledgable about different models of cars and engine types. While I am not a car mechanic, I would certainly like to learn how to do major repairs beyond simple maintenance. As far as skills, I am well versed on electronics, specifically Apple products. I enjoy watching the Apple Keynotes and reading reviews of the products. My only frustration with Apple products is that the batteries do not last, and Apple does not make them easily replaceable.

I have never edited any guides, but I have had practice editing documents and instructions in my Professional Editing class this semester. I am looking forward to working on a guide on iFixIt.
