Hi my name is Sarah and I began as an aide in the EDU department at iFixit in March 2019. I work with students on their technical writing skills and help keep track of devices that we send out to the over 80 universities we work with. I’ve also had the opportunity to write a little for the EDU website and I’m starting to get involved with community management on iFixit Meta which keeps me busy! I'm very interested in learning and helping others which is what attracted me to this company and department.
A little bit about me— I’m from San Luis Obispo, CA though I’ve lived up and down the West Coast of the United States and in Edinburgh, Scotland for a short time. I have a BA in Psychology and Sociology from Seattle Pacific University and I love people and their unique stories.
One of the most important things I’ve learned in the short time I’ve been here is courage when it comes to taking apart broken devices that I’m not familiar with. When I started at iFixit I was kind of a novice when it came to fixing things and I had to overcome my fix-a-phobia. Since starting, I’ve had a chance to take apart various electronic devices and write some guides which has been really cool. Although my background is mostly working with people and not fixing things, I’m the family tech support. Whenever someone needs a device setup, they turn to me, whether it’s setting up cable, or the new printer, I’m the go-to gal! I also have a little bit of experience with carpentry because I spent a summer helping my dad with his construction company.
In my free time I have many interests. I love spending time with family, friends, and my dog Birdie. I also volunteer with both the Central Coast Freedom Network and The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. One thing I really enjoy is being in nature, taking a walk out at Montana de Oro is a favorite activity. I also like to go antiquing because I believe we can reuse things if we take care of them well. My favorite collection is my rock and gem collection and on the weekend you might find me rockhounding or at a show searching for my next specimen.
