Ok so I get to answer. In case anyone is interested, the main issue all along (except for the first HDD in June) was the Logic board. I had thought maybe the hard drive cable was the culprit, and Dan (I think) said the 7200 sata 3 hard drive was too “fast” for this old crate. The SDD el cheapo I got off Amazon (inland professional) 240GB for 29.99 is working quite well so far and has breathed new life into this old thing. I bought the used logic board from powerbook medic (powerbookmedic.com) these folks were very helpful. It shipped and was received in 4 days. I loaded the OS from the disk I thought might be bad (but was’nt) on pretty much the first try. There is a lot of research gone into this final repair, and I implore anyone contemplating doing this sort of thing, to do the research as there were many different ways to get into trouble or get the wrong part. I thank everyone here for the help to get it going in the right direction. In closing, it is still an old computer that is not supported by...
I have this issue also, there seems to be no good answer. I've been to forums and others seem to have this problem also. Seems to be older units more than newer. I have a dvd drive so I can load from disc. Go to mac rumors forum and see if anyone has found abwork around. Also you can use target disc mode if you have another mac. You may also be able to use an external hdd dock as mine will recognize that, it just seems to be the flash drives.
It may be toast. I dropped my old iphone 4 in dish water. Immediately pulled it apart, removed the battery and dried everything I could. I then got a bowl big enough to hold the phone in about the middle, then poured rice in the bottom, put the open phone in and covered it with the rice.(I used brown I guess any kid would work) I left it in there overnight and then put it back together. Who knows it may just work, it did for me that phone still works and that was 4-5 years ago. I know not a technical answer but I got lucky!
I had this issue setting mine up. The only thing that helped was putting the chime in the hallway plug as close to where the door unit is. It seems not to be able to pick up doorbell/camera very far. Mine had to be literally 5-6 feet. Hope this helps.
It says difficult, however I found it a challenge but not that bad. Just pay attention and keep screws in order. I did the paste on the heatsink, cleaned the fan, and replaced hard drive cable. Other than the black tape disintegrated and a small cut from trying to remove said tape with a razor blade and leaving DNA all over inside, I didn't have much trouble. Thank you for these guides and parts to do them.
I now can identify my macbook by DNA, who says old technology?lol Couldn't get tape off so I decided to see if I could get it off with razor blade…big no no. I left some of my blood in there. It came off in tiny pieces, I'll use what we used to call “tire tape".
The male part of the sensor connectors is flush with the female part. There is nothing to grab or pry on except where the wires are. I used tweezers and gently pulled and wiggled the wires and just under then, gradually it came loose with out breaking anything. Just go slow and be very patient.
It was a lot easier to do then read about doing it. While I was right there I figured weelll might as well max out the ram lol, all 4 gigs of them. I installed a Hitachi 500Gb 7200 RPM mechanical hdd.

These 2 screws stay with the connector and come with the new connector. At least the one I bought from ifixit did.
