How to silence fan noise?Hi, Is there anyway to silence the fan noise on the XPS 13? Thanks
Answer to: Power connector internal pin broken - Anyway to repair charging port?Well I was finally able to fix it though I had issues along the way. I ordered the new DC jack from ebay and completely disasembled the laptop. The most difficult part was removing the old connector. No matter how much heat I applied with a soldering iron I couldnt get it out. It felt like I waa pulling a tooth and I’m a dentist to boot! So there were bits of the metal leads left on the mounting area. I had to use my dental drill to open up the holes. Finally was able to seat the new DC jack in place but soldering was difficult but I finally managed. Reassembled every thing and now it turns on but have one small little issue in that 1 out of like 8 keys on the keyboard dont work. Maybe I need to reseat the keyboard cable or wipe down the leads? thanks
Answer to: How to silence fan noise? It has nothing to do with any of that. From day one this laptop was as loud as a dustbuster. Gets worse if you have to charge and use it at the same time. The teardown mentioned something about the lack of noise dampening grommets. For what its worth I have tried everything like updating my drivers, bios, thermal management software, and playing with power performance settings in Dell Commander and the energy profile settings. Personally I think the fan quality is subpar and I’m not the only one that has complained about this especially those on the Dell help forums. Thanks.
