Answer to: Wifi problems; bad rangeYour problem with WiFi looks more like a hardware failure than software/driver issue ... yes ... you should start your troubleshooting with drivers because wrong driver can cause many issues - especially if you use driver which is not offered by vendor of the notebook - in your case ASUS. Experimenting with drivers not recommended by vendor can be performed only after you fix your problem with radio - simply: Make it work purely as described in original documentation to simply verify if you're facing to some bigger problem or not. Simply follow these steps: 1. Download and create some Linux Live USB Boot Flash (or CD from ISO if you have CD-ROM only and doesn't have appropriate USB Flash Disk). I recommend some version of Live Ubuntu for this purposes - this can be done using actual OS or you can prepare it on different machine. 2. Restart your laptop and boot your Linux Live distribution and wait until it starts - in case of Ubuntu your laptop will start and Linux desktop will appear on the screen. Now you s...
Answer to: Dual Video Card Question..Hello, your notebook has two video cards - one is integrated in CPU itself and second is discrete - NVIDIA GeForce GT 940M. Technology which is trying to find the best compromise between battery life and performance is called NVIDIA Optimus - http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technolo.... When less critical or less demanding applications are run, the discrete GPU is powered off and the Intel IGP handles both rendering and display calls to conserve power and provide the highest possible battery life. EDIT 21.12.2016: (according to @pccheese comment below) You can use NVIDIA Control Panel to set default preferred GPU - for best performance and to use discrete GPU by default change the combo box Preferred graphics processorto your GT 940M (see pic. below).
Answer to: Can I add an SSD drive in addition to existing HD?Howdy! I'm sorry but answer is NO... :( You cannot add SSD in addition to your stock HDD because ASUS Q552UB has only one internal Serial ATA interface. In case that you will need SSD instead of your stock HDD, you have to replace it by appropriate 2,5" Serial ATA SSD drive. If you need to connect additional storage, it must be connected via external USB 3.0 port (transfer rate 5Gbps) so I suggest to use some small factor USB 3.0 flash drive like Samsung 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Duo (MUF-128CB/AM) - see on Amazon: http://a.co/1ZmmJ2a
