My Background ¶
I'm currently residing in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California and have been here since the fall of 2012, when I began a Mechanical Engineering degree program at California Polytechnic State University. I eventually switched my major to a unique interdisciplinary major known as LAES, or Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies. It was then that I had the opportunity to branch out and become a more well-rounded student and future contributor to this world. I graduated in the Spring of 2016 with a BA in that aforementioned major, but I've been with iFixit since mid-June of 2015.
Time at iFixit ¶
As previously stated, I've been here since June of 2015 and I have the ability to make a difference just by being a part of this team of people. We advocate for change, one repaired device at a time and I love being able to contribute to that in any way possible. In the time I've spent with the company, I've seen many sides of Operations and there's never a dull moment!
Life Outside of Work ¶
In my spare time, I really like to do anything and everything I can. Being from the Los Angeles area originally, I really like the pace of San Luis Obispo and quite frequently just walk around to take in the sights, sounds and smells of it all. It's a beautiful place with a rare combination of nature and city that I just can't get back in the fast-paced lifestyle of the Greater LA area.
I'm an avid bowler and just generally a huge sports fan. Every sport to me is worth watching and I've probably played its video game equivalent many times over! I'm your typical product of a technology generation, surrounding myself with all the information I can about the newest gadgets and gizmos, cars, and everything in between!
In the coming months, I hope to expand my creative abilities and make music and videos, write poetry and stories, and just see where that all takes me! I want to live my life with no regrets and that begins with doing things I've never done but have always wanted to. At one point in time I heard a great speech about five ways to live life without regrets.
1. Never let fear paralyze you, because life is risky business and everything risky is worth doing
2. You only have one shot, so don't mess it up
3. Never be too busy impressing others that you forget to impress yourself. Be kind, generous, and compassionate.
4. Spend more time with people who make you smile
5. Say what you need to say
Guiding Principles in My Life ¶
We live in a crazy world full of unexpected challenges but we all need something that keeps us grounded. For me, that's my ability to volunteer my time for my YMCA back home. Each summer I have an opportunity to give back for a week and lead a group of elementary school students around a dusty, dirty, sometimes rainy camp but it's so much more than that. It's an opportunity to grow as a person, to develop a deeper appreciation for humanity and nature, and a rare opportunity to disconnect from an immensely over immersed world.
Aside from the Six Pillars of Character (Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Trustworthiness) I live by a few words we speak at camp every year, known as the Ragger's Creed
I would be true, for there are those who trust me
I would be pure, for there are those who care
I would be strong, for there is much to suffer
I would be brave, for there is much to dare
I would be a friend to all, the foe, the friendless
I would be giving and forget the gift
I would be humble for I know my weakness
I would look up and laugh and love and lift
