This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose connection problems with the Garmin Edge 530. If you're having trouble getting your phone to recognize your bike computer, or vice versa, use the following solutions to get things hooked up for your next ride.

Causes

The Garmin Edge 530 and your smartphone cannot pair if Bluetooth is not turned on. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices before attempting to connect the devices.

2

Sometimes restarting both devices will help to sync up their connectivity. First, turn off the smartphone and the Garmin Edge 530, wait a few seconds, and then turn them back on again.

If the Garmin Edge 530 and your smartphone are not connecting after ensuring bluetooth is enabled and doing a restart, you may have to retry the pairing process by removing the Garmin Edge 530 from the Garmin Connect app and the bluetooth settings on your smartphone. The steps are as follows:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app and go to More (or Menu for android devices), select Garmin Devices > Garmin Edge 530 > “Remove” > confirm device removal.
  2. Go to your smartphone’s bluetooth settings, select the Garmin Edge 530 in the list of devices, and select “forget this device” (or “unpair” for android).
  3. On the Edge 530, go to Menu > Phone > select the name of your phone > Forget Phone.
  4. To reconnect the devices and re-enter pairing mode, go back into the Garmin Connect app and select More (or Menu), select Garmin Devices > Add Device to re-add the Garmin Edge 530.
  5. Place the Garmin Edge 530 into pairing mode by going to Menu > Settings > Connected Features > Phone > Pair Smartphone.
  6. Go back into the Garmin Connect app and select “Start” or “Connect it,” inputting the 6 digit pin when prompted, syncing the devices.
