The Apple Watch Series 4 GPS models are identified by the model number visible when the band is removed, A1977 for the 40 mm and A1978 for the 44 mm.
The GPS Only models do not have wireless 3G capability and are not capable of being connected to the internet without being paired to an iPhone. GPS models include built-in GPS and GLONASS as well as a barometric altimeter and Siri support. All GPS only models have an aluminum case and an Ion-X glass face.
