Using third-party payment services.

When checking out, you can choose to use a third-party service such as PayPal, Shop Pay, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay.

These providers are secure, convenient, and offer options such as faster checkout or paying in installments. As they handle part of the billing and refund process themselves, you may notice some differences compared to paying directly with a credit card.

Things to keep in mind:

Prepayments or pending transactions

  • Many services place a temporary hold when you attempt to place an order.
  • If the order is not completed, these holds typically disappear on their own within a few business days.

Installment payments

  • Providers like Shop Pay Installments, Klarna, or PayPal Pay Later may split your order into scheduled payments.
  • These charges may not exactly match the date of your order or return, as they follow the provider’s schedule.

Refunds

  • All refunds issued by iFixit are sent directly to the payment service you used.
  • Each service applies refunds according to its own rules: sometimes by reducing your remaining balance, sometimes by crediting your account, and sometimes by returning the funds to your card or bank account.
  • iFixit cannot redirect, cancel, or modify how a third-party service applies your refund.

Autofill and express checkout

  • Services like PayPal Express, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay save your payment and address information to speed up the process.
  • These services may fill in your information automatically during checkout.
  • If your information is outdated or incorrect, you must update it directly in the payment service settings (and not on iFixit).
  • Since they communicate with your bank in advance, you may also see pending transactions even if you do not finalize the order.
Important

⚠️ Incorrect address used by mistake?

If an autofill service (such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay) inserted an old or incorrect address and the order was placed less than 25 minutes ago, you can learn how to cancel your order here.

✅ What iFixit can do:

  • Remove pre-authorization holds or speed up pending transactions.
  • Redirect a refund to a different card, bank, or account.
  • Modify how a provider like Shop Pay, Klarna, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay applies your refund.
