What happens after a refund is issued?
Whether you paid by credit or debit card, PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, or another payment service, once a refund is issued by iFixit, it is always applied to the original payment method.
In most cases, when you receive a refund notification from iFixit, we have already released the funds and the transaction is complete on our end. From there, your bank or payment provider controls how and when the refund appears.
How refunds are processed
- iFixit authorizes and sends the refund to the original payment method.
- Your bank, card issuer, or payment provider applies it according to their own policies.
- You will see the refund either on your statement, in your digital wallet, or applied to your installment balance.
Credit or debit cards
- Refunds are sent back to the same card number used at checkout.
- If your card has been cancelled or replaced, your bank usually redirects the refund to your new card or account automatically.
- Only your issuing bank can confirm how this was handled.
PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay
- Refunds are sent back directly to the payment service you used.
- The service may first apply the funds to your balance before sending them to your linked card or account.
Refunds on installment services like Klarna
- Refunds are sent directly to your installment provider.
- If you still owe money, the refund is generally applied to reduce your balance instead of being sent to you as cash.
- If your balance is already paid, the provider may transfer the refund to your card or bank account.
