Introduction

Over time, regular use of the trumpet can lead to the degradation of the felt material. The stem felt can wear down from friction against the valve, deteriorate due to moisture from breath or saliva, or accumulate dirt or debris. Here is the process of replacing the stem felt in a trumpet's valve.

Step 1 Stem Felt

Loosen and remove the top valve cap from the trumpet body.

Pull the valve out of the trumpet body.

Loosen and remove the finger button from the end of the stem.

Remove the top valve cap from the stem.

Carefully pull the used stem felt off of the base of the stem and remove it from the stem.

Fit the new stem felt onto the stem and push it down onto the base.
