Introduction

In this guide, you will learn how to disassemble and reassemble your Toshiba Portege laptop to replace a broken touchpad. This guide will also teach you what the proper and necessary tools are for this repair.

Image 1/1: Using an #1 Phillips screwdriver, unscrew and remove the two 3.8mm screws labeled B3.
  • Remove the front face plate with the plastic prying tool.

  • Using an #1 Phillips screwdriver, unscrew and remove the two 3.8mm screws labeled B3.

  • Using your hands, lift keyboard up toward you, starting from the edge closest to the screen.

  • Gently place the keyboard on top of the trackpad, keys' side down

  • Find the white ribbon connector (where the keyboard is still attached to the rest of the laptop).

  • Unscrew the screw on the metal plate that keeps the ribbon from sliding out.

  • Gently remove the metal plate and set it aside.

  • Using the plastic opener tools, dislodge the white ribbon connector from the two clips holding the connector.

  • Using the plastic pryer, carefully remove the cover of the touchpad

  • Gently pull up the touch-pad piece and lay it upside down.
