Introduction

This guide is intended to help you replace the inner latch, which maintains spring tension in the bar that holds the print head down. If you have a 3D printer, you can get the model here.

What you need

Step 1 Getting access to the internals

Begin by turning off your printer and unplugging your printer so that you have full access to it.
Open the printer cover.
Open the carriage by actuating the green handle.
Remove the two screws highlighted in red.
The blue plastic piece is what will need to be replaced to get spring tension to hold the print head down.

Step 2 Remove the print roller

Remove the two screws denoted in red.
Remove the screw denoted in orange.
You will now be able to remove the bracket holding the print roller in by wiggling them both out.

Step 3 Remove the assembly

Remove the three screws attaching holding the assembly to the printer.
The assembly has two cables running in to the printer and will no longer be supported by the screws.

Step 4 Detach the cables

There are four screws holding the cover on: two denoted in red and two on the rear of the printer.
Once you have the cover off, disconnect the cable.
Now you can feed the cable through the hole.

Step 5 Remove the sensor

Slide the sensor off of the assembly by pushing the sensor in the direction of the red arrow.

Step 6 Replace the Latch

You now have access to the full assembly and can replace the broken piece.
There is a spring that adds tension to the print head retention bar. Ensure that it is properly installed into the replacement piece.
