Sony WH-1000XM3 Earpad Foam Screens Replacement

Introduction

Inside the earcups there are two foam screens that with time can get dirty and/or degrade.

As reported by Sony's partner Encompass, OEM part numbers are 4-738-572-01 (left) and 4-738-573-01 (right)

Third-party screens are usually sold together with ear cushions.

What you need

    • Before beginning, turn off the headphones

    • Insert a plastic spudger between the cushion and the earcup frame

    • There are six clips that hold the cushion in place, release them moving the spudger around the frame

    • Gently pull away right and lef foam screen

    • Screens are made by three pieces glued together, leverage on the ones glued to the earpad to avoid damaging the old screens (you will need them as reference for the tape placement)

    • Cut double-sided tape and place it in the same position of the old screens

    • Right and left screens are not identical and have different tape placement

    • Remove tape cover and place new screens in position

    • In the right earcup there is a hole (in red), DO NOT COVER IT with the screen

Ich frage mich nur warum der Schaumstoff die Öffnung (Bild 4) nicht verschließen sollte (reines Interesse)? Hat das eine Auswirkung auf die Funktion des NC? /

I just wonder why the foam should not close the opening (picture 4) (just out of interest)? Does this affect the function of the NC?

Yes, as far as I understood it is necessary for NC and pressure equalization maybe
