Introduction

With this guide, you will be taking the screen off of the device to locate the camera module. The following steps will explain how to remove the necessary parts in order to remove the camera module located on your screen.

  1. Begin by popping open the HDMI/USB port cover on the left edge.
    • Begin by popping open the HDMI/USB port cover on the left edge.

    • Remove the three #000 headed, 3 mm long screws located underneath the port cover.

  2. There are two #000 headed, 3 mm long screws under a similar cover covering the Micro SD slot on the top side of the device.
    • There are two #000 headed, 3 mm long screws under a similar cover covering the Micro SD slot on the top side of the device.

    • Remove the two screws beneath the Micro SD card slot cover.

    • Attach the suction cup to the top right area of the screen.

    • Pull to remove the screen from the rest of the device.

    • Watch out for the front camera cable connected to the top middle of the device. The display ribbon cable should just slide out.

    I found pulling with two suckers started to bend the screen as the little clips holding the screen wouldn't release. So instead of risking damage I started to work my way around the edges of the screen by slowly pulling with the sucker and at same time  using the trusty old a spudger tool (Spudger) to gently pry open.

    Be care sliding out the ribbon cable connector that goes to the screen. Its also tricky to slide back in after so you might need to peel the ribbon from the back plate to give some more wiggle room. I did.

    • Remove the single 3 mm Phillips #000 screw on the left side of the module.

    • Remove the module from the front panel assembly.

Is it possible to replace the camera module with a different one? I think that it is a usb camera. I would like to replace it a newer sony model.
