SHIFT6mq Screen Replacement (old version)

Power off your SHIFT6mq and remove the bumper (protective case).

To remove the back cover, use your fingernail (or an opening pick) to pry it loose at the gap between the frame and the back cover at the bottom left corner (viewing the back of the phone).

Remove the replacement battery by lifting it out at the gap in the bottom center.

You can set the bumper, back cover, and replacement battery aside for now. You will not need these 3 items again until the end.

It is recommended that you ground yourself by touching the protective contact of a nearby wall outlet. This will prevent damage from electrostatic discharge.

For this step, you will need the Torx T3 screwdriver.

Remove all 14 identical screws from the frame. (See markings in the image)

Make sure you remove all the screws. Some screws have a white coating. You can push through this coating with the screwdriver and unscrew the screw as usual.

All screws in the SHIFT6mq are identical. Therefore, it is not important to remember where you removed them from. You can simply keep them all together in one place.

Use your fingernail, an opening pick, or a spudger to go between the display frame and the midframe of the SHIFT6mq.

The display should now be released from the frame. Caution: The display is still connected to the motherboard!

Carefully place the display glass-side down on the SHIFTPHONE so that there is never any tension on the ribbon cable.

If you want to be on the safe side, you can place a piece of plastic film, paper, or an anti-static cloth between the display and the open phone.

Release the display connector from the short side by prying in the direction of the adjacent connector.

Be careful not to damage any nearby SMD components.

Do not release the connector from the ribbon cable side or the long side. Doing so can cause damage to the connector.

Before installing the new display, it is necessary to transfer the earpiece speaker from the old display to the new one.

It is recommended to use tweezers to release the earpiece speaker from its housing—otherwise, the earpiece speaker could be damaged.

Place the earpiece speaker in the exact same position and orientation into the designated housing in the new display and press it down gently.

Place the display on the phone with the back facing up.

Position the display cable connector onto the socket on the motherboard, ensuring both parts are perfectly aligned. The display cable connector must not be tilted, as this could break the contact pins.

Once both connectors are properly aligned, press down gently on the display cable connector with one finger until you feel and hear it snap into place.

After the display connector is connected, place the display on the phone so that the screen faces outward.

Then press the display along the bezel onto the midframe.

Optional you can now insert the replacement battery and perform a short test run to see if the earpiece, the display, and touch are working.

Turn your SHIFT6mq over and screw all 14 screws back into their designated holes.

Make sure the screws are tightened firmly, but without damaging the threads or the screw heads. A good guideline is 0.6-0.8 Nm.

Once all screws are reinstalled, insert the replacement battery, attach the back cover, and pull the bumper over the phone. (Reverse step 1)
