Replacement of Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 Battery

Introduction

This guide provides procedure to replace the battery for Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 rugged-laptop.

There are several variants for CF-19 series including Mk 1 through Mk 6. However, replacement procedure for the battery is identical regardless the model number of the laptop. This procedure does not require specific tool or equipment.

Step 1 Perform pre-installation inspection

Check the part number and technical specification of the replacement battery. The part number for the CF-19 series is CF-VZSU48. Additional alphabets and/or numbers would follows the CF-VZSU48 depending on the countries or local regulations.
General specification for the battery is, part number CF-VZSU48, Lithium-ion battery, 10.65 [V], 58 [WH], 5,700 [mAh].
Inspect the exterior of the replacement battery. Pay attention on followings;
Exterior: Any damage on exterior plastic housing, any leakage of internal material of the battery assembly.
Battery connector: No foreign objects on the electrical contact is allowed.
Battery connector/receptacle shall be clean. Foreign object would cause shorted circuit that can lead to the fire or explosion of the battery assembly.

Step 2 Locate the battery compartment

Locate the battery compartment of the laptop. The battery compartment of the CF-19 is located at the right side of its body, near to the user.

Step 3 Unlock and open the battery compartment door

Locate the locking latch on the battery compartment door.
Slide the locking latch to the right side.
With the locking latch positioned to the right side, slide it to downward. Small sound of unlocking would be heard.
It is recommended to open the screen of the laptop to open the battery compartment door.
With the locking latch slid downwards, pull the upper side of the battery compartment door.

Locate the battery in the battery compartment.
Locate the small strap on the battery.
The color of the small strap may vary depending on its part number. The example shows Orange color, but would be Blue or others.
Hold the small strap and pull out the battery to completely separate and remove the battery from the laptop.
If you want to dispose the removed battery, follow the local regulations.
If you are not going to install the replacement battery immediately, close the battery compartment door and lock. Failure to comply may result in water/moisture/foreign object intrusion into the battery compartment and damage to the latop.

Step 5 Installation of the replacement battery

If you did not completed the inspection of the replacement battery's exterior and electrical contact, perform the pre-installation inspection on it.
Inspect inside of the battery compartment prior to install the replacement battery. Ensure there is no foreign objects.
Slide the battery inside of the battery compartment.
Battery electrical contact goes bottom side when it is installed.
The battery housing fits the contour of the battery compartment. If you need excessive force to install the battery, check the orientation of the battery.

Step 6 Close and lock the battery compartment door.

Prior to close the battery compartment door, inspect the sealing around the rim of the door. If the sealing is intact, close the door.
The sealing around the battery compartment door is soft material. If there is any damage on the sealing, water/dust proof would be degraded or failed.
Slide the locking latch to upwards and slide it to left side to complete lock the battery compartment door.
